Veteran glamour actress passes away





Veteran glamour actress Jothilakshmi has passed away after a brief struggle with blood cancer. She was 68 when she breathed herlast night at her home in Chennai. She has acted in over 300 movies in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam languages since 1960s .
Jothilakshmi made her acting debut in the 1963 Tamil film 'Periya Idathu Pen which had Makkal Thilagam MGR in the lead role. She then went on to act in supporting roles or second heroine roles. She has acted with Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan and the current Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha in the super hit romantic comedy 'Galatta Kalyanam'. She also appeared in MGR starrers 'Adimaippen', 'Neerum Neruppum' and a few other films. She acted as the lead heroine in the film 'Poovum Pottum'.
Her failure to make it big as a heroine meant that she became a glamour artist or item dancer in the 1970s. But she has been loyal to her profession and was continuing that for many years giving her best. Many of her item numbers have been highly popular among fans and have contributed to the success of the films in which they were included. She continued appearing in item numbers until recent years and has shared screen space with Superstar Rajinikanth, Vijay, Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and G.V.Prakash. Age never had a bearing on her fantastic dancing skills and glamour. Her younger sister Jayamalini and daughter Jothimeena also followed her path in film industry and have made a mark for themselves.
In the recent years Jothilakshmi has been appearing in Tamil films in roles laced with comedy, mostly as part of actor Vivekh's comedy tracks.She also started appearing in Tamil Television serials. She acted in G.V.Prakash starrer 'Trisha Illana Nayanthara'. The film's director Adhik Ravichandran has tweeted that she was supposed to act in a big role in his second film 'Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan' with Silambarasan in lead role. But sadly, fate had other plans.
Jothilakshmi's mortal remains will be kept at her residence at Ramarao Street, T.Nagar, Chennai. The final rituals will reportedly take place this evening.
