Debutante Caarthick Raju arrives on the scene with Thirudan Police, a film which has been made as an ode to fathers. The police force is the script's focal point and constables, in particular, have been portrayed in a realistic manner. The film succeeds in engaging the masses, with a mix of comedy and sentiment, with very few lag moments.
The film stars Dinesh in the lead role and this is his follow-up to the much-appreciated Cuckoo. Though his choice of this script is praise-worthy, one feels that he is sort of stiff most of the time. Rajesh as his righteous and honest father makes a solid mark and it is good to see all his experience on the screen. Dusky beauty Iyshwarya Rajesh gets a few combination scenes with the hero and also a couple of duet numbers. Her role doesn't offer beyond that.
The lives of police constables have been showcased in an effective yet enjoyable way. You would realize the difficulties that such officers go through on a daily basis, and at the same time have a laugh as well. Young Balasaravanan has another worthy outing in Thirudan Police and his natural way of entertaining is his major USP. His combination scenes with Dinesh are a riot and are bound to become popular.
'Naan Kadavul' Rajendran is the ultimate showstealer and his already popular lady makeover clinches it big time. Whatever he does on screen appears funny. John Vijay is a solid support to Rajendran and the duo provides plenty of situational comedy arising from coincidences.
Naren preaches about the sacrifices that cops have to make to discharge their duties, and he is as authoritative as ever. Muthuraman, Nitin Sathya and Renuka play the typical characters in the tale, with the former two slotted as the villains and Renuka enacting the middle-class onscreen mum who sheds copious tears.
In Yuvan's score, Pesadhe and Dheivam take the cake among the songs while his background score serves the purpose. The placement of the duet song Moodupanikkul appears forced and Dinesh's moves in this song are so lacking in grace and style.
Editor Praveen makes sure that the product is taut with very few loose ends. The run time of around 2 hours and 15 minutes is ideal. And watch out for a popular hero in a jolly song sequence.
Despite being predictable and not having any lofty motives, Thirudan Police's comedy aspect is the selling point, along with the neat sentiment factor. The feeling while leaving the show is positive thanks to the end credits roll, which is a nice finishing touch.
Verdict: A time pass flick which ought to score on mass appeal
